Respectful Behavior

Staff and administrators establish expectations at the beginning of the year and share them with students and families. Students are expected to respect themselves, teachers, classmates and the school community.

Depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior, consequences may include:

  • Loss of privileges

  • Parent contact

  • In-school suspension

  • Out-of-school suspension

Dress for Learning

Clothing should be appropriate for learning and the weather. It may not be disruptive, unsafe or excessively revealing. Administrators may ask a student to change clothing or call home to request appropriate attire.

Items to Leave at Home

  • Weapons and toy or facsimile weapons

  • Tobacco, drugs, alcohol, matches and lighters

  • Skateboards, roller blades and Heelies

  • Bats and hard baseballs

  • Personal gaming devices, trading cards and other disruptive items

Disruptive items may be sent home or require parent pickup. See Student Devices and Network Use for phone and smartwatch rules.

Bullying is unacceptable. Report concerns to a trusted adult at school or anonymously through Safe2Tell at 877-542-7233.

Academy District 20 prohibits discrimination and harassment based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, transgender status or family composition. Report incidents to a trusted adult or through the district complaint process.

Emergency Drills

AIES practices hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter drills. Visitors and volunteers present during a drill must stay with the class or group they are supporting.

Student Protection

School employees must report suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate human services agency or law enforcement authority in accordance with Colorado law. District staff may use physical intervention or restraint only when needed to protect the safety of a student or others and in accordance with state law and district policy.

Lost and Found

Label clothing, lunch containers and water bottles. Lost items are kept near the cafeteria. Unclaimed items may be donated at the end of each semester.
